Pre-College Arrival Details

Summer is fast approaching and you'll be at GW in just a few weeks! To get you started, we've included your arrival details below.

Airport Logistics

Washington, D.C. is located within 50 miles of three major airports, Reagan National Airport (DCA), Dulles International Airport (IAD) and Marshall Baltimore-Washington International (BWI). DCA is currently the only airport that is located adjacent to a metro station, but we are recommending that all students plan to obtain other forms of transportation from the airport to campus, due to massive safety maintenance that will be ongoing the entire summer on the metro system. This may mean that taxi queues are longer than usual, and that other taxi services such as Uber and Lyft will be running at "surge" rates, meaning they will be more expensive than usual.

A recommended option for travel is Super Shuttle, which provides door-to-door service to any destination in metropolitan Washington. Super Shuttles are often cheaper than taxis because they are shared among other passengers. For information, call 1-800-BLUEVAN or visit www.supershuttle.com.

Check In, Orientation and Welcome Dinner

All activities listed below are on the Mount Vernon Campus (2100 Foxhall Rd, NW, Washington, D.C. 20007).

If you're driving, park in the garage and follow the signs to GW Pre-College. The garage is located adjacent to the West Hall building.

If you're taking a ride share or taxi, bring up the address in Google maps to ensure you get dropped off at West Hall. Our campus has lots of buildings and we don't want you carrying your luggage too far.

First Day of Class

All students need to check their class folder (picked up at student check in) for where your specific class is located. Please note, some classes are on Foggy Bottom, and others are on Mount Vernon Campus (particularly important for commuter students).

On the first day, we suggest your student be overly prepared and bring: laptop/tablet and/or smartphone, notebook, pen/pencil and class folder. Your professor will then clarify what is necessary to bring everyday.

July 4th Holiday

There will be no class held on July 4. Residential activities will continue.
