International Eligibility & Visa Requirements

Our Pre-College One-Week Summer Exposure program is open to international students; however, GW only provides F-1 visa sponsorship for students applying to College Intensive 3 and 6-week sessions.

Students interested in other Pre-College programs often attend while in the United States on other visitor visas.

English Language Requirements

Students for whom English is a second language will demonstrate English proficiency via Skype interviews. Once your application is submitted, please email [email protected] to set up the Skype interview. Students should be academically qualified to manage the challenges of university-level work in the English language.

Visa Requirements

GW does not issue documentation for F-1 visa sponsorship for the Summer Immersion sessions. Students may be able to attend these programs on eligible visitor B-1 and B-2 visas. These visas are not intended for students whose primary purpose is to study in the US for the summer. Participation in the Summer Immersion programs should be secondary to your primary purpose in obtaining your visa if you are traveling on a tourist visa. If you need documentation for purposes of a visa request, please contact us. GW will provide an invitation to participate which may be taken to a consular office.

Please see the Insurance Guidelines for Visiting International Students (PDF) document for more information on the insurance policy pertaining to students who are not attending GW on an F-1 visa.

If you are currently in the U.S. on a visa other than the F-1 visa, you may be eligible to participate in the Pre-College Program, depending on your immigration status.

If you have any questions about your immigration status, please contact us; we're happy to help.
