Dr. Philip Lucas

Dr. Philip W. Lucas, LICSW, LCSW, ACSW is a consultant, trainer and psychotherapist with more than 30 years of direct practice and administrative experience. Licensed as a clinical social worker in the District of Columbia and Florida, Dr. Lucas is the owner and founder of Clinical / Administrative Services and Training, (C.A.S.T) PLLC.  He contracts with a number of domestic and international organizations. His ongoing work includes: clinical supervision and consultation, quality assurance, professional ethics, disaster and trauma, grief and bereavement, mental health, child welfare, sexuality, substance abuse, suicide prevention, forensics and organizational development.  He has been a university professor for two decades. He is an Adjunct Associate Professor at Howard University School of Social Work; an Adjunct Professor at Trinity University DC School of Education Clinical Counseling program and at The George Washington University School of Public Health.

As an educator and therapist, Dr. Lucas has a long history of work in the area of grief, loss and bereavement. He provides board-approved continuing education (CEU) trainings for health and mental health professionals on a variety of subjects. Dr. Lucas has extensive experience working with diverse populations impacted by trauma and disaster. He is a consultant (Disaster Behavioral Health expert) with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA’s) Disaster Technical Assistance Center (DTAC) and a Red Cross Disaster Mental Health volunteer, certified to work with military families. He holds a national certification in Transgender care. Dr. Lucas is a member of a number of local and national boards. He is the immediate past Chair of the Mayor’s Advisory Committee on Child Abuse and Neglect (MACCAN), D.C. In 2011, Dr. Lucas received the Educator of the Year Award from the National Association of Social Workers, D.C. Metro Chapter and is also a previous Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. He is passionate about helping individuals, groups and families impacted by loss and trauma and about educating helpers on the long reaching impact of loss.
