Cyprus Bi-Communal Summer Youth Institute

Sponsored by the Cyprus Fulbright Commission, this one-week, one-credit program was designed to bring a group of 20 Turkish and Greek Cypriots to GW for peace building and leadership development. While on campus, students learned about conflict resolution from a variety of perspectives including business and entrepreneurship, history and the civil rights movement, religious tensions, and social media movements. Students put their new skills into practice by filming and editing a video that features youth voices  discussing their hopes for the future of Cyprus.
Students also explored D.C. as a living classroom and went on co-curricular trips the U.S. Institute of Peace, the Newseum and Capitol Hill.  Students also engaged with our GW Pre-College Program for a sports night, toured the national monuments at night, and learned about the U.S. college admissions process from admissions officers.
In November 2013, the Summer and Special Programs office received the Creative and Innovative Award for the Most Outstanding Credit Program by the North American Association of Summer Sessions.
