Flexible
GW Summer online courses work with any schedule at any location. Online courses are asynchronous, meaning that they do not meet at a set time, allowing you to fit your coursework into other summer activities such as internships, work or travel. Advance toward your degree while working or pursuing off-campus summer enrichment opportunities.
Accessible
Access GW’s excellent educational resources from your computer and enjoy online courses taught by the same acclaimed GW faculty who also teach these courses on campus.
Accelerated
Intensive summer online courses condense a full 14-week semester’s equivalent into a shortened 6-week time span (some courses may meet for 8 or 10 weeks).

ONLINE COURSE CONSIDERATIONS
• Online courses are not self-paced or independent study courses. You will interact with the professor and other students, participating actively in a virtual classroom community, and submit assignments according to deadlines set by the professor.
• Online courses are no less rigorous than face-to-face courses. In fact the courses are especially intensive and rigorous as course content is offered within a condensed time frame.
• Online courses require self-discipline: you'll need to schedule time each day during to participate actively in class by checking your GWU e-mail account, the course Blackboard site, completing homework, and participating in other asynchronous class activities.
• Online courses require the same amount of time as a campus-based summer class.
• Online courses require coordination because the courses are compressed. Late registrants, those "adding" the course, and those who fail to acquire their books and materials in a timely fashion may miss a great deal of the course.
• Some courses may require you to arrange for a proctored final exam (check the course listings) or will require you to take a final exam on campus during the fall semester.
• Courses are taught using a combination of Blackboard, the Internet, email, electronic texts, CD-roms, movies, and DVDs.
